Yusaf “Vicotnik” Parvez still had much to say after Dødheimsgard’s ambitious Black Medium Current in 2023. Hence the release of Omniverse Consciousness, the chaotic counterpart to this monumental album, under the name Doedsmaghird—an anagram of Dødheimsgard—in 2024. Intrigued by these two related but dissimilar albums and their unique connection, I reached out to Yusaf to learn more. And after a couple of months and two missed opportunities, we had a long and insightful conversation about these recent releases and much more: using Omniverse Consciousness as a threshold, we stepped into the dark and colorful universe, full of harshness, beauty, and paradoxes he’s been creating for more than three decades, and Yusaf offered his thoughts on black metal, the nature of music, online controversies, and no less than the meaning of life.
